WHEN YOU NEED HELP WITH HOUSEKEEPING/CHORE SERVICE IN GUILFORD COUNTY, NC

 

Introduction

 

Sometimes you need help with managing your budget, keeping the cobwebs at bay, or other household tasks. Everyone gets to a point in their life where they could use a little extra help. This information sheet will give you some general information on what type of help you can expect to receive from several agencies in Guilford County, NC.

 

Your first step should be to call SeniorLine 336-884-6981 in High Point and Jamestown and 336-333-6981 in the rest of Guilford County to talk about your needs with an information and referral specialist.

 

 

SeniorLine

 

When you first call SeniorLine, operated by Senior Resources of Guilford, you will be greeted by an information and referral specialist.  This individual will listen to your situation and ask you a few basic questions. These specialists are skilled in problem solving, have a range of general information and, most importantly, they can help you find the services you need.

 

The SeniorLine information and referral specialist may refer you to Case Assistance, provided by Senior Resources of Guilford. For information on this service, click on Case Assistance.

 

If during the interview, the SeniorLine specialist determine that your needs are best served by the Department of Social Services, they may refer you directly to Guilford County Department of Social Services (DSS) 336-641-3000.

 

The SeniorLine specialist may also refer you to a private agency. For more information on these agencies see our referral list, contact SeniorLine at 336-884-6981 in High Point and Jamestown and 336-333-6981 in the rest of Guilford County.

Department of Social Services (DSS)

 

When you call the Department of Social Services 336-641-3000 you will have an interview with a social worker, this is known as an “intake”. During the intake you may be asked question concerning you including:

q       ability to care for yourself

q       those who are helping you, such as family and friends

q       income and financial assets, and

q       your physical and mental health

 

These questions will be asked to determine your needs and the services appropriate to your needs. The information will also help them determine if you are eligible for services through Medicaid or another program. If the DSS determines that you are eligible for Medicaid or a grant program, they can help you receive services from a number of public and private agencies that can offer you the assistance you need.

Case Assistance

 

If you receive Case Assistance, Senior Resources will conduct an extended interview and assessment with you which will help Senior Resources determine how best to help you.

 

Case Assistance can be provided to individuals who:

q       are 60 years and over and have no needs that would require medical assistance

q       have difficulty with 3 or fewer “Activities of Daily Living” (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, toilet use, eating, transferring from bed or chair, walking, and grooming; and

q       can actively participate in the service management

 

If you fit these criteria and need help, Senior Resources may be able to help. Senior Resources can:

q       coordinate contact for you with community agencies that can give you the help you need,

q       offer short-term problem solving for everyday concerns,

q       provide internal referrals to other Senior Resources programs such as Foster Grandparents, Senior Centers, Mobile Meals, or Community Nutrition,

q       help you arrange transportation, and

q       check back with you to make sure you are receiving the help you need.

 

If problems are complex or require intensive care, Senior Resources will help you contact other agencies, such as DSS. For more information, refer back to Department of Social Services.
