The next open enrollment period for the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug coverage for seniors age 65 and over begins November 15th. Through the SHIIP Program (Seniors Health Insurance Information Program), Senior Resources of Guilford provides information and assistance regarding Medicare and other senior health insurance issues, including questions related to prescription plans selected during the first Medicare Part D enrollment period.
As seniors turn 65, they have a 7-month period (three months before their 65th birthday, the month of their birthday and three months after their birthday) in which to enroll in Medicare, including the new Part D prescription coverage. Anyone who chooses not to enroll when they are first eligible may elect to participate at a later date, but they may have to pay a higher monthly premium once they do enroll. |
